Marriage Procedures and Permission

The required documents for completing marriage procedures

 


1. Filling the required form after acquiring it from the Eccl. Court.

 

2. The married-to-be couple must both be adults “over 18 years of age”

 

3. A baptism certificate issued by the parish priest for the married-to-be couple.

 

4.I A celibacy certificate issued by the parish priest for the married-to-be couple. In the event that the married-to-be couple is from abroad, a celibacy certificate issued by the competent authorities (Ministry of Interior Affairs / Municipality) must be also submitted.

4.II In the event that the married-to-be couple is already a legaly married couple by civil law, a copy of the civil marriage certificate should be submitted along with an ecclesiastical celibacy certificate issued by the parish priest.

 

5. Certificate issued by the parish priest that states clearly the non-existence of any Religious impediments for proceeding the marriage ceremony, and according to that, requesting a marriage permission from the Court. 

 

6. The aforementioned certificates must be ratified as “APOSTILLE”, or by the Palestinian Embassy of the country in which the testator had passed away along with the ratification of the Palestinian Ministry of Justice and of the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Palestine


* APOSTILLE: the ratification of the State Secretary seal that certifies the signature and the seal of the Notary Public.

 

7. In the event that the religious affiliation of one of the married-to-be is different or belongs to another denomination, a change of denomination must take place in order to complete the marriage procedures due to the assets and law. And after that, a certificate issued by the parish priest must be submitted stating the current religious affiliation of the married-to-be couple.

 

8. A valid Image replica (photocopy) of the married-to-be couple ID and/or passport.

 

9. A valid Image replica (photocopy) of the parents of the married-to-be ID and/or passport.

 

10. A valid Image replica (photocopy) of the witnesses ID and/or passport, along with a certificate that clearly states his/her affiliation to the Orthodox Church.

 

11. Payment of the requested fees according to the fees list issued by the Court

 

 

***NOTE: all the above mentioned documents should be submitted to the Court. Any petition that does not meet the requirements/conditions will be rejected, as the Court may request other documents if and when deemed necessary.
